What is uncontrolled gout?
Gout that remains a problem despite treatment. Your clinician reviews your symptoms, uric acid levels and treatment history to understand why. A flare on its own does not mean you need infusions.
What is KRYSTEXXA?
KRYSTEXXA (pegloticase) is an infusion medicine for certain adults whose chronic gout remains uncontrolled despite appropriate oral treatment, or when those medicines are contraindicated. It is usually given every two weeks.
Your clinician decides whether it fits your medical needs.
Can I receive infusions at home?
Your clinician must first assess whether both the medicine and the home setting are appropriate for you. An infusion nurse administers treatment and monitors you during the visit.
What monitoring is needed?
KRYSTEXXA requires screening, blood tests before infusions, premedication and monitoring during and after treatment. It can cause serious allergic reactions, so treatment must take place with healthcare providers prepared to manage them. People with G6PD deficiency must not receive it.

Do video visits replace every in-person visit?
No. Your provider may arrange blood tests or an in-person evaluation when needed. Virtual visits support your evaluation, treatment decisions and follow-up.

Dr. Ariel Teitel is a board-certified rheumatologist and former Chief of Rheumatology at St. Vincent’s Hospital in New York City. He serves as a Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine at NYU Grossman School of Medicine and completed his rheumatology fellowship at Hospital for Special Surgery.
As Co-Founder and Medical Director of The Gout MD, Dr. Teitel leads the clinical program for adults suffering from uncontrolled gout, bringing more than 25 years of experience in rheumatology to help patients manage their condition and regain comfort in everyday life.
